Last week I attended the Lowell National Historical Park Community Awards presentation for acknowledgments of excellence in cultural heritage and historic preservation.

Martha Mayo was one of four recipients that evening receiving an award for her lifelong achievement in the preservation and presentation of Lowell history.

I first met Martha early in my career as I was doing research on Lowell for a CETA project.

Martha schooled me early one day in the archives of UMASS Lowell just about sending me home for making a little too much noise with some other researchers in the Library’s basement.

I learned my lesson that day and soon after that she was an early supporter of my photography business sending me work to help copy and reprint the many photographs in the historical collection.

Congratulations Martha your recognition is well deserved.
