Bookmaking and Paper Arts

Last weekend I spent a little time learning the art of hand made books. Friday night I was at the Shoe Town Arts Center for a class on bookmaking with artist Emily Lawrence-Boulger. I learned about signatures which are groups of folded blank pages which we then punched and sewed together. From there we then pasted and covered the final product. The following day I attended the Museum of Printing Book Arts Open Studio. There I was guided by Mary Ingham and Sarah Bennett to more techniques from deckled pages to trimming and folding cut paper for a multipage books from a single sheet of paper. Lots to learn and practice and I just might produce that photo book I have been designing in my head all these years.
