I attended the Watch City Steampunk Festival this past weekend in Waltham MA. Although a bit chilly for May it was well attended with plenty of costumed revelers along with almost an equal amount of photographers. What is Steampunk? Well if you have to ask…. But think more in terms of the Sci-Fi of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells or the science, fantasy and horror of H.P. Lovecraft. Combine that with some magic, time travel, rockets and a Victorian parlor of characters and you just start to immerse yourself in its little retro futuristic world. I met plenty of characters, artisans, magicians, witches plus writers and illustrators vending their wares. This festival has been going on since 2010 with a brief Covid-19 hiatus and I look forward to attending it again next year.
